After a negative battle in which Khan was blamed by his opponent for sympathizing with Islamic fanatics, the 45-year-old previous human rights legal counselor guaranteed in his acknowledgment discourse to be a "chairman for all Londoners".


"This race was not without contention and I am proud to the point that London has today picked trust over trepidation and solidarity over division," he said after the outcome was announced at City Hall, to praise and cheers from supporters.

"I trust that we will never be offered such a stark decision again. Trepidation doesn't make us more secure, it just makes us weaker, and the legislative issues of apprehension is basically not welcome in our city."

As he was talking the contender for the far-right Britain First gathering, Paul Golding, who was lined up with the other loosing competitors behind Khan, turned his back.

The nearby MP for Tooting, Khan succeeds the appealing Boris Johnson, a backer of Britain's takeoff from the European Union who is seen as one of the top choices to succeed Cameron.
